Driver on run in SA after crash, gun found

SA Police are searching for a driver who fled after crashing and bringing down powerlines. (AAP)

A search is underway in for a driver who fled a crash that brought down powerlines in South Australia.

Emergency workers were called to Aldinga Beach south of Adelaide about 7.15am on Saturday after the car crashed and rolled on Main South Rd, bringing down powerlines.

Witnesses told police a man extracted himself from the car and fled.

A police dog and helicopter are helping the search, which turned up a firearm and ammunition buried at a nearby property.

Police are investigating whether the items are linked to the crash.

The road has reopened after being closed for several hours while the powerline was repaired.
