Driver of stolen car found hiding under trampoline after police chase

A driver of a stolen car was found hiding under a trampoline after a police chase through south Manchester.

Police first spotted the Volkswagen Golf at around 2.05am this morning (Wednesday) in Northenden.

The driver made off and police gave chase, with the Golf then heading towards the direction of Manchester Airport.

The National Police Air Service helicopter was deployed to follow the getaway driver who then headed down Portway in Wythenshawe.

The car mounted the pavement, police said, before smashing into a wall on Harry Rowley Close.

The police helicopter then spotted the driver hiding in a nearby garden under a trampoline.

He made off again towards Portway before being detained by officers.

He has now been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in custody for questioning.

The Golf was recovered and is believed to have been involved in a series of burglaries in the Trafford area, police said.

Enquiries are ongoing.
