Driver nowhere to be seen after smashing his car into tree in Harehills in Leeds

A Leeds road was shut for almost five hours after a car crashed into a tree in Harehills - and police cannot find the driver.

Police closed Coldcotes Avenue shortly after 2.30am following the collision which involved a grey Fiat Grande Punto.

The driver, a man, seemed to be uninjured and was seen walking away towards Harehills Lane.

West Yorkshire Police are now looking for the driver and anyone with information is asked to contact the force on 101.

A spokesperson said: "At 2.30am this morning police received a report of a road traffic collision in Coldcotes Avenue, Harehills, involving a grey Fiat Grande Punto in collision with a tree.

"The male driver was seen to walk away towards Harehills Lane apparently uninjured. The vehicle was recovered shortly before 5am. Enquiries are being carried out to trace the driver."

Coldcotes Avenue was closed in both directions between B6159 Harehills Lane to Foundry Approach while accident investigation work was carried out.
