Driver nabbed while three times over the limit also had cannabis in his car

A Hamilton driver caught while three times over the drink limit also had cannabis in his car.

Mateusz Wisniowski was seen striking the vehicle in anger after a wheel was damaged when he hit a kerb.

Wisniowski, 31, of Comrie Crescent, was fined £300 and banned from driving for a year at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

He admitted being over the drink limit and possessing cannabis on April 17.

The court heard Wisniowski’s car hit a kerb in Burnbank Road, Hamilton.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, explained: “Around 1am police investigated a report of someone hitting a vehicle.

“They found a parked car with the accused seated inside. The keys were in the ignition.

“Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on speaking to the accused.

“He said he had been drinking whisky. He had then driven the car and hit a kerb, causing damage to a wheel.

“The officers could also smell cannabis and recovered about £40 worth of the drug from the vehicle.”

Dad-of-one Wisniowski, who represented himself, told the court he will lose his job as a ground worker at Glasgow Airport as a result of the conviction.

Sheriff Ray Small said he would have imposed a fine of £450 and an 18-month driving ban, but reduced the penalties because of the accused’s early guilty pleas.
