A driver mowed down a bat-wielding man before ploughing into a shop in a wild road rage clash.

The shocking incident was caught on camera as two angry drivers reportedly began arguing over a parking space in Queens, New York.

Footage showed two men in an Audi bickering with another two men in a white Audi on Tuesday - before one man strikes another with a bat.

Punches are thrown in the middle of the street as one of the men returns to the white Audi and begins to drive away.

The man carrying a bat then follows him and smashes his left headlight - prompting the white Audi driver to hit the accelerator and hit the bat-wielding man in brown.

The white Audi then careers into the front of a shop - leaving innocent passers-by injured as they got caught up in the violence.

Rainbow Bakery owner John Lo said the frightening situation happened during his store's grand opening.

Mr Lo told WNBC-TV he was "so sad" and the incident had left him "worried about employees" and he future of his business.

Police have arrested Jie Zou, 24, the driver of the white Audi, and charged him with assault.

Jonathan Zhang, 35, has also been charged with assault.
