Driver miraculously escapes as car turns into fireball

A driver managed to escape from their car with injury as it turned into a fireball on the M6 motorway near Warrington.

A car caught fire on the southbound section of the busy motorway near J21 at around 3pm today.

Police said the driver managed to escape the fire unhurt, although the incident caused delays on the M6.

North West Motorway Police shared a dramatic photograph of the car on fire.

They shared a statement which read: "Vehicle Fire earlier today on the M6 at J21A #Warrington Southbound. No injuries to the owner. This is why the traffic was stopped for your own safety . Thanks for supporting us."

Cheshire fire and rescue service said:" Firefighters were called following reports of a fire involving a car on the M6.

"On arrival the crew found one car well alight.

"One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

"The motorway was closed for a short time but has since reopened."
