Driver may have confused accelerator with brake before driving over edge of multi-level car park

Police believe the driver confused the accelerator with the brake.

A man has escaped injury after driving his car through a safety barrier in a multi-level car park, falling two metres to the level below.

Rescue crews were called to an apartment block in Melbourne's Queens Road about 8:00pm last night, where they found the vehicle suspended between the first and ground floors, wedged between the car park and an adjoining building.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, was able to escape the vehicle without injury.

Firefighters worked with police and the State Emergency Service to determine how to remove the vehicle, with advice from a surveyor and structural engineer.

The vehicle remains in place and may need to be removed with a crane.

Police believe the man confused the car's accelerator and brake.

The investigation continues.
