Driver left with 'serious injuries' after 3 lorries crash on M1 at junction 29

There are major delays on the M1 northbound after a driver was seriously injured in a crash involving three lorries.

The M1 at junction 28 (A38) to junction 29 (A617) was closed for a number of hours due to the crash involving three lorries and a spillage at J29.

While it has since reopened, Derbyshire Police is advising motorists to avoid the area due to traffic delays.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Serious traffic in both the north and south of the county this afternoon.

"In the north the M1 northbound, just prior to junction 29, is about to reopen following a collision between three lorries.

"One of the drivers was left with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries.

"The collision has caused major delays with traffic building on the A38 as a result and this will take some time to get back to normal following the reopening of the motorway."

At 5.20pm Highways England advised there was six miles of queues.
