Driver left with minor injuries after car hits lamp post and overturns on A690 Durham Road

A driver was left with minor injuries after their car hit a lamp post and overturned on the A690 Durham Road.

Northumbria Police received a report before 4pm on Monday that a car had overturned on the road near Houghton.

The car was travelling on the westbound carriageway when it is believed to have collided with a lamp post before overturning near the Houghton Cut.

Emergency services attended the scene and found the driver had sustained minor injuries.

One lane on the carriageway was closed by the police while the overturned car was recovered.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 3.40pm today (Monday) we received a report a car had overturned on Durham Road in Houghton.

"It was reported the vehicle had been travelling on the westbound carriageway when it collided with a lamp post before overturning near the Houghton Cut.

"Officers and emergency services attended the scene and the westbound carriage way of the A690 was closed at the A19.

"The occupant of the vehicle is believed to have sustained minor injuries."

The lane has since been reopened.
