Driver leaves phone and half a bottle of brandy before abandoning car after police chase

A half-empty bottle of brandy was left lying on the seat of a car which was abandoned after being chased by police.

Officers spotted a black Mercedes-Benz A-Class being driven badly through Trafford in the early hours of this morning (September 3) and tried to get the driver to stop.

The car was seen being driven along Thomas Street, in Gorse Hill, and it failed to stop after officers tried to pull it over.

Eventually the car was abandoned - just 200 metres away from the home address of its registered keeper.

Officers found an opened bottle of brandy with half of its contents missing on a seat in the car, along with a mobile phone, before the vehicle was seized.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police Trafford wrote on Facebook: "The driver of this vehicle decided to fail to stop for police after some very poor driving on Thomas Street, Gorse Hill.

"Following a short pursuit the driver then abandoned the car and made a run for it.

"Unfortunately for the driver he left behind his mobile phone and half a bottle of brandy (no prizes for guessing why he failed to stop.)

"The vehicle was also abandoned around 200 metres from the registered keeper's home address. Think we have a pretty good idea where to start looking.

"Vehicle seized and off the road now whilst we conduct further enquiries to identify the driver who presumably will want his car and phone back."
