Driver knocks couple off motorbike - then says: ‘I don’t care’

A driver has been filmed swerving into a motorbike and knocking the couple riding it to the ground.

While overtaking a car in a two-lane road, Eric Sanders and his girlfriend can be seen dramtically hitting the tarmac.

The accident, which happened in Texas on Saturday, was caught on camera by another motorcyclist who was riding just behind the couple. Mr Sanders uploaded the footage to his Facebook account and it has since been watched by thousands of viewers and shared across several YouTube channels.

As the video above shows, the car suddenly careens to the left knocking both passengers off the motorbike. After the accident, fellow drivers pull over to check on the couple, as the two lay down on the side of the road. The person filming approaches the driver, who started by justifying that the rider was passing him on double-yellow lines and that he got “stung by a wasp”. After being told that the crash was caught on video, he simply says: “I don’t care”.

Mr. Sanders clarified on Facebook that he had, in fact, passed the driver over double-yellow lines after he had drastically slowed down. Mr. Sanders claims the driver swerved into him intentionally and “is gonna be prosecuted”.

Sky News reported that Texas Department of Public Safety has seen the video. According to the agency, an investigating trooper will meet with prosecutors on Monday and the driver of the car could face felony charges.

Later on, the rider added in another post that his girlfriend was headed into surgery for an arm injury sustained during the crash.

The couple is now launching an online funding campaign in an attempt to raise $10K to cover for the hospital expenses and the time they won’t be able to work. Until now, they have almost reached $3,000.

The online funding campaign started by Mr Sanders

“As most of my close friends know, me and my girl were hit by a car on PURPOSE!" Mr. Sanders wrote. "We both are going to be out of work for a while and have 3 teenage kids in the house!”
