Driver killed in two-car crash in Cowbridge Road West in Ely, Cardiff

A driver has died following a crash in Cardiff , police have confirmed.

Officers were called to a crash between a grey Nissan Micra and a black Audi A3 which happened in Cowbridge Road West in Ely at the junction with Hillsnook Road at 2.40pm on Friday, a spokesman for South Wales Police said.

The driver of the Nissan Micra, a 68-year-old woman from Cardiff, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Heath following the crash but has since died.

The spokesman added: “Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a police family liaison officer.”

A 35-year-old man from Cardiff who was driving the Audi has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in police custody.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or who stopped to provide assistance and has not yet given their details.
