Driver killed after large piece of 'rock' crashes through windscreen

A driver has died after a large piece of rock or concrete crashed through their windscreen this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 11.40am today, but the driver died at the scene in Thoresby, near Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police has closed nearby roads while an investigation is carried out.

An appeal for the public’s help has now been launched, Nottinghamshire Live reports.

Louise Melbourne, from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A driver has lost their life as a result of this incident and we will do everything we can to get to the bottom of how that happened.

“We are appealing for anyone that may have seen a large beige coloured cabbed truck that may be discarding its load in the area around the time of the collision.

"We are also appealing for any dashcam footage which may show this vehicle.”

It is thought that the roads will be closed for some time and officers are currently at the scene to direct traffic.

Anyone who has information which could help the investigation should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.
