A female pedestrian was thrown in the air after she was hit by a driver who jumped a red light at a crossing.

Umar Jamil was driving in University Boulevard in a Volkswagen Polo on at 1.50pm on March 31 when the incident happened.

The traffic lights were on red when the pedestrian walked across the junction.

The 18-year-old's car collided with her and she hit the windscreen and was thrown high up in the air.

She was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre by ambulance and later declined to give a victim impact statement.

Nottingham Magistrates Court heard that Jamil clearly jumped a red light at a pedestrian crossing.

During the hearing, on June 25, Jamil, of Ebers Road, Mapperley, had his case sent to the crown court.

He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

An interim driving ban continues on Jamil who will appear at the crown court for sentencing on July 16. He remains on unconditional bail.
