Driver involved in horror smash which saw car flip on busy Lanarkshire road is charged

A driver involved in a horror crash which saw her car flip on a busy East Kilbride road has been charged.

Police confirmed the 63-year-old was rushed to hospital but escaped yesterday's shocking smash with only minor injuries.

However, following the incident on Murray Road at 4.35pm, the woman has been charged with an offence under the Road Traffic Act.

It is alleged she was driving without due care and attention causing the car to overturn.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We were called to a crash involving a single car on Murray Road in East Kilbride around 4.35pm on Sunday, December 5.

"The 63-year-old female driver was taken to Hairmyres Hospital. There was nothing to suggest any serious injuries at the point she was taken to hospital."

Police and fire crews were alerted to the scene near to traffic lights where diversions were put in place. The road was fully reopened by 6.25pm.

East Kilbride Police Inspector David Doherty added: "There was only one vehicle involved, the female driver was charged with an offence under Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act."
