A man was caught driving without a licence and lied about it to the police - just months after committing the same offences.
Police found Anojan Ganeslingam behind the wheel of a Ford Focus and when they asked him for his details, he gave them a different name and address.
Checks on a computer system revealed he had been lying and he had no licence or insurance.
The 33-year-old, of Angerton Gardens, Fenham, Newcastle, was charged with obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty, driving without a licence and without insurance.
He pleaded guilty to the allegations at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court, where it was said that Ganeslingam had also been convicted of the same offences last year.
Speaking about the latest charges, prosecutor Laura Lax said police were informed of a potential theft at an Asda store in Gosforth at around 2am on July 4 and were told the offender had driven off in a Ford Focus.
They spotted a similar vehicle on Kenton Lane and stopped the driver.
"They took him to the back of a police car and asked for details," said Ms Lax. "He gave his name as a different name and his home address as Watford.
"He had no ID and said he was visiting family in Newcastle. He said he was insured and had a full UK driving licence.
"The police were equipped with a computer and were unable to find any of those details on their system.
"They also had a mobile fingerprint device and an instant match came back with different details - with the name that he comes in court with today.
"He was arrested for obstructing police, driving without a licence and no insurance."
Ms Lax said the defendant had 12 previous convictions.
She added: "The last one was in December 2018 and was exactly the same - obstruct PC, driving without a licence and insurance."
Michael Crowe, mitigating, said Ganeslingam apologised for his actions.
"The defendant asks me to apologise for his stupidity," said Mr Crowe. "Not long ago there was something similar. He is doing what he can to make sure this does not happen again.
"The motor vehicle that he was using has now been destroyed. It was impounded by the police, it was not insured.
"He chose not to get it back. He does not have access to a vehicle.
"Since his last convictions, he has become a father. He has a young baby, a four-month-old."
Magistrates asked for probation reports to be prepared and adjourned sentencing until August 16.
