Driver in serious condition after van crashes and flips on major Ayrshire road

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after his van crashed and flipped on a major Ayrshire road.

The 75-year-old driver's Ford Transit Connect van was involved in the smash last Wednesday at 11.30am at the Eglinton Interchange between Irvine and Kilwinning.

Emergency raced to the scene at the southbound off-slip and the stricken driver was taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

Hospital staff describe his condition as serious, police have confirmed today.

Police are now appealing for witnesses following the serious crash.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from the road policing unit at Irvine, is appealing for information.

He said: “Since this crash took place we have been carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the collision and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has dash-cam footage to contact the road policing unit at Irvine through 101 quoting reference 1022 of January 12.”
