Driver in police cells after crash and assault

A driver in South Gloucestershire has been placed in police cells after a crash and subsequent assault on an emergency worker.

Police say a driver was making a non-essential journey when his car crashed into a lampost during a very cold and frosty night.

They say a driver was found to be three times over the drink-drive when tested by members of Avon and Somerset Police Special Constabulary at the scene.

Police also reported an assault on an emegency worker took place while a suspect was being driven to custody. The assault was described as "minor" with "no injuries" but "still unacceptable."

Pictures of the crash were posted alongside a tweet.

The full tweet published on the Avon and Somerset Special Constables Twitter page says: "Non-essential journey, crash the car, over 3 times the drink-drive limit, one in custody.

"The driver then added assault emergency worker to their rap sheet on the way to custody on S/Insp George. Luckily minor and no injuries but still unacceptable. #southglos "
