Man drives 224 miles with wife in boot during lockdown to collect £15 eBay item

A man decided to drive 224 miles with his wife in the boot to buy a £15 eBay item when he was meant to be in lockdown.

The driver, from Coventry, was stopped by motorway patrol after heading to Salford, Greater Manchester, to pick up some windows he paid £15 for.

He made the journey despite government guidelines stating we must only leave the house for essential reasons to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

After making the journey there with his wife as a passenger, the couple discovered she couldn’t fit into the car as well as the windows, so she spent the journey back in the boot.

The motorway patrol stopped the car on the M6 in Cheshire and found the woman in the back of it.

The North West Motorway Police tweeted: “A driver has travelled from Coventry to Salford to collect a £15 EBay purchase of windows.

“His wife could not fit in the vehicle so she was travelling in the boot for the return journey when stopped on the M6 Cheshire. The driver was given a TOR for the offence.”

The driver received a Traffic Offence Report for what he did.

Others have also been guilty of blatantly ignoring government advice to stay at home to save lives.

Last night police in Derby shut down a house party where 25 adults and children gathered at a property and were listening to music and enjoying a large buffet.

This went ahead despite the fact everyone should be avoiding contact with other people apart from those they live with.

Nigel Farage also admitted to breaking lockdown rules by going out for exercise more than once a day

"I am going to be honest with you, in the last five days I have been out walking eight times,” he said.

"So there are three days this week where I went out walking early in the morning, and I went out again in the afternoon."

Mr Farage defended his decision by saying he didn’t see one other person while he was out.

"I wasn't putting anybody else at risk including myself, and I think we just need to apply common sense here," he added.

Meanwhile, some people have even been arrested for ignoring the government rules around coronavirus.

Yesterday a man tried to jump the queue at the Trafford Park Asda store.

in Manchester and was apparently ignoring the rule to stay two meters away from others.

Security staff stepped in to stop him acting like this and the man is said to have become threatening and abusive.

Eventually the police were called and they arrested the man, who they say was detained for a public order offence.
