SURAT THANI: A driver was hurt when her pickup truck carrying rubber latex was struck by a train at an unmanned crossing in Ban Na San district on Saturday morning.
The crash occurred near Ban Khlong Soon village in tambon Prupree at 11.05am, said Pol Capt Chinupong Boonchukhong, deputy investigation chief at the Ban Na San police station.
A police investigation found that the white pickup with Surat Thani licence plates was on the way to deliver latex in the area when it was hit by the Chumphon-Hat Yai train at the crossing, which had no barriers. The driver failed to notice that the train was arriving as she drove over the tracks.
The force of the crash threw the pickup about 10 metres away from the tracks and it was heavily damaged. Tanks containing latex were thrown out of the vehicle, causing latex to spill over the area.
The driver, identified later as Kancharee Intharak, 41, sustained arm and face injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. The train was only slightly damaged and continued on to its destination.
