Driver hospitalised after single-vehicle Hunter Valley crash

A driver has been taken to hospital after a crash in the Hunter Valley overnight.

Emergency services were called to Oakey Creek Road Pokolbin just before 9pm on Wednesday July 1 to reports of a car crash.

On arrival at the scene they discovered a vehicle had left the roadway and hit a power pole.

A woman was trapped inside the vehicle due to her injuries. Police Rescue, and the Cessnock District Rescue Squad worked to safely free the woman.

IN NEWS TODAY:

"Our team rendered first aid to the woman until the medical personnel arrived," a statement from the squad said.

"Due to the uncertainty of her injuries the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also activated. Our operators assisted with manoeuvring the patient onto a spine board to where she could then be removed from the vicinity of the car to a more suitable location to be further assessed."

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson confirmed the patient suffered abdominal injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital.

The woman's condition was unknown.
