Driver hospitalised after M90 crash sparked traffic chaos

A driver is in hospital after a crash on one of Scotland's busiest motorways.

The one- car smash took place at 6.15am on the M90 southbound, near junction two, on Wednesday.

Emergency services raced to the scene where the driver of the motor was injured.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The nature of their injuries and current condition are yet to be confirmed.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Photos show traffic beginning to build ahead of rush hour.

Traffic Scotland reported that one lane was blocked as a result of the early morning smash.

Ten minutes later, the second lane was blocked as early-morning commuters were diverted onto the hard shoulder.

By 6.35am emergency services were on the scene as traffic started to build back along the carriageway .

While both lanes re-opened just after 7am, the aftermath of the smash caused delays of up to 25 minutes as rush hour gridlock continued to build.

Police said the road was cleared by around 7.15am.

At 7.25am, Traffic Scotland reported that traffic was running more smoothly.

Police confirmed that they were alerted to the smash just after 6am.

A spokesperson told the Record:"At around 6.10am on Wednesday, September 23 emergency services were called to the M90 southbound near junction two, following a one-car crash.

"The driver was taken to hospital for treatment and the road was cleared by around 7.15am.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
