Driver holds up police responding to call in overtaking lane on West Lothian motorway after 'failing to see them'

Drivers are being reminded by police that lane two on a motorway is for overtaking only after officers were stuck behind a car on route to a call.

Road Police in West Lothian were responding to a "priority" call when on the motorway when they were held being a vehicle that remained in the overtaking lane for  1.7 miles.

In statement, Road Policing Scotland said: "Please remember that lane 2 of the motorway is an overtaking lane only.

"West Lothian Road Police were responding to a priority call on the motorway and were held behind a vehicle that remained in lane 2 for 1.7 miles, failing to see them."

The driver was issued with a careless driving ticket, which carries a fixed penalty of £100 with three points on the driver's license.

In more serious cases it could go to court , where the offenders may face higher penalites.
