Driver hits police officer then smashes vehicle through fence

A driver who failed to stop hit a police officer then smashed the car into a fence on a quiet street this morning.

Witnesses told of how up to 11 police vehicles swooped on Garden Lodge Grove, Netherley, this morning just after 11.30am.

Police said a black Volvo C30 came to their attention and an attempt to stop the vehicle was made.

But the driver put his foot down and it was driven towards a police car, hitting an officer and leaving him with minor injuries.

An eyewitness who saw the arrests said around 11 police vehicles were at the scene.

They said a car had been smashed into a neighbour's fence.

Four men were arrested in nearby Calderwood Park and have been taken for questioning.

An ambulance attended the scene after one officer was said to have sustained minor injuries.
