Driver hits a parked truck, slows down… Then flees like nothing happened — here’s what it teaches about Hit-and-Runs

A TikTok user recently found herself being the center of a viral video after she caught a neighbor of hers red-handed trying to do a hit-and-run on her truck. Everyone who ended up watching the video — about 290K and climbing — ended up taking out their rage on the man after he tried to play dumb when confronted.

There was a lesson to be learnt in the entire ordeal, however, because when you own a car these things are unfortunately always a possibility. Sometimes you can be out at a mall, or a restaurant, or even outside a bank — and as we already know, the parking lot of a bank tends to be a hotbed of activity. All of these places are somewhere where your car can be dented by some person who decides to make a run for it and leave you with the bill.

For Kylie, however, she just so happened to have parked the car at a location where her house surveillance camera could monitor what happens to the truck while it’s parked. You truly never know what your home CCTV or even ring camera can capture.

On her TikTok post, Kylie included the video of the red sports car hitting her truck before speeding off. The most frustrating part about the clip is the car actually stopped, which would suggest that the driver actually thought about it. But he decided to just drive off. Kylie then approached him in the video, and he had the audacity to ask, “How did you know it was me?”

In the comment section, people were having a field day with him. One user commented, “‘How’d you know it was me?’ Even without video, that question answered itself.” Another added, “If he didn’t give you his insurance, POLICE!!!!” And the rest of the comments were just in the same vein.

This accident ended up being another teachable moment for some in the comments, though, as they shared with each other what someone should do when you’re caught in such a predicament. Per motor1, it all starts with the insurance. Make sure you get covered through collision or uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD). Without it, you might just end up covering a hit-and-run out of pocket, especially if you have no evidence of it.

And if you do get your car hit while you’re out and about, the first thing you should do is take photographs and contact the police to file a report. It would help if the location also has surveillance cameras that you could use to help you either track the car or just prove that you were a victim of a hit-and-run. These steps go a long way when you’re filing your insurance claim.

As for Kylie, unfortunately, just confronting the man ended up not being enough. She later gave an update on the situation, saying that the man who hit her car kept calling her, and Kylie told her followers that she’s gonna tell her father to help her in this. One user on TikTok gave her sound advice and wrote, “He does not need to communicate with you at all at this point. Let the insurance companies figure it out. Don’t discuss it with him.”
