Driver hits 111mph on M58 then pulls over on hard shoulder for a cigarette

A driver took a cigarette break on a motorway hard shoulder - after being stopped by police for hitting 111mph.

Police pulled the vehicle over after it was clocked at more than 40mph above the limit on the M58.

The patrol issued the driver with a traffic offence report for their speeding.

The same patrol later spotted the same vehicle parked up on the hard shoulder of the same motorway, which is just 12 miles long.

When officers stopped to see why the vehicle had halted they found the driver had pulled over for a cigarette.

The driver will now face police action surrounding that, as well as the speeding.

Details of the two incidents were revealed by the North West Motorway Police on Twitter on Sunday night.
