Driver hit with fines as gardai catch them speeding on M7 twice in same day

A driver was hit with two fines after they were caught speeding twice in the same day.

The motorist was clocked driving at 154kmph on the M7 motorway, 34 kilometres over the 120kmph speed limit on Tuesday.

Gardai from Laois stopped them and issued a fixed charge penalty notice (FCPN).

But it appears they did not learn their lesson as astonished roads policing officers caught the motorist speeding again within a short period of time.

A tweet on the official Garda Traffic account said: "Laois RPU detected this driver on the M7 at a speed of 154km/h NOT once! but twice yesterday within a very short time and at the same speed. Two FCPN issued. "

Meanwhile, at a Covid-19 checkpoint in Roscommon, gardai seized a car after they discovered the driver had no insurance.

A garda spokesperson said: "Roscommon Gardaí RPU on Covid-19 checkpoint stopped driver of this car, driver had no insurance. Car seized and proceedings to follow."
