Driver held onto mobile phone as man tried to grab handset in Iceland car park

A recovering drug addict has been given a community order after he tried to grab a driver's mobile phone.

The victim had been texting his girlfriend for 25 minutes in his car when Luke Parker and others appeared at his open window.

Parker attempted to take the phone on July 21 this year, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

But his victim held on and Parker and the group left the car park at Iceland Foods, Priestsic Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Police were in the area and saw Parker running away and detained him.

He made full and frank admissions, explaining he tried to take the phone and did not use any violence.

The 25-year-old, of Market Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to attempted theft.

The court heard he had got to grips with a Class A drug addiction and was now clean.

He received a 12-month community order, 50 hours of unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation activity sessions.
