Driver has to be cut free from car after Christmas Day crash in Wigan

A driver had to be cut free from their car after a Christmas Day crash in Wigan.

The collision involving two cars happened at the junction of Pemberton Road and Holmes House earlier this afternoon.

Police confirmed they also called in fire crews and that one of the drivers had to be cut form their vehicle.

A dramatic picture posted by the GMP traffic team showed one of the cars having had its roofed sawn off.

Miraculously it is said no one was seriously injured.

The officer joked in the tweet added: “You can tell it's Christmas as both the Sergeant and Inspector turned out to help.”

Adding: “ Ps... Boss ... the Sgt made me post that!! It was a lawful order and his idea."

It is second nasty crash of the day with a car earlier flipping over on the M56 near Northwich in Cheshire.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after that incident.
