Two drivers escaped without injury after a collision between a lorry and a car blocked part of a major road in Gateshead.

Just after 2.20pm on Friday, police were called to a crash between a lorry and car on the A167 Durham Road in Low Fell.

The lorry had collided into the driver's side of a silver Toyota, which was across the carriageway.

Neither driver was injured in the collision.

The road was blocked southbound near to the Lowrey's Lane junction outside the Greggs shop.

The car was recovered from the scene at around 2.45pm and the road reopened.

Delays remained in place for a short time after the collision was cleared.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 2.21pm today police received a report of a collision between a lorry and a car on Durham Road in Low Fell.

"Nobody was injured during the incident."
