Driver has lucky escape after car veers off West Moor road and flips onto roof

A driver has a lucky escape after their car left the road and flipped over in West Moor.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle collision on Salters' Lane near the junction of Hawks Edge just before 7pm on Friday.

The car had gone off the road and crashed into a fence and bushes before turning over and landing on the roof.

Luckily the driver was able to escape unaided and was already out of the car when police, paramedics and firefighters arrived.

Fire and rescue crews from Wallsend and Byker station were called to the scene and gave first aid until an ambulance arrived.

They then stabilised the car and used thermal imaging cameras to make sure no one else was trapped out of sight.

The driver was treated at the scene but was not believed to be injured.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7pm on Friday, February 7 to a one-vehicle road traffic collision on the junction of Salters' Lane and Hawks Edge.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and treated and discharged one patient on scene."
