A driver had a lucky escape after their car flipped over in a dramatic crash in North Shields.
Traffic officers were called to the junction of Hawkeys Lane and Cleveland Road just before 1pm on Sunday where two cars had collided.
One of the cars had flipped over onto its side due to the impact but nobody was believed to be injured.
Debris was also scattered across the road from the wrecked vehicle.
Hawkeys Lane was closed by police with a diversion in place while an operation began to move the crashed cars.
A police car and van remained on the scene as traffic was moved away from the area.
The road had to be cleaned after oil spilled onto the carriageway and the debris was also cleared away before the road reopened.
Once the cars had been recovered, the road was able to reopen after just over an hour.
