Driver had lucky escape after car overturned in Alnwick crash

A driver had a lucky escape after their car flipped on its side in a crash in Alnwick.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on the A1068, at the Aldi supermarket turn off, just after 5pm on Wednesday.

One of the cars involved in the collision had landed on its side but it appears nobody involved was injured.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines from Alnwick , Rothbury and Amble just before 5.10pm but all crews left the scene 20 minutes later as everybody was safely out of the vehicles.

Northumbria Police confirmed that two vehicles were involved and a spokesperson said: "One car's landed on its side on the road."

They added that there were no serious injuries reported and work was taking place to remove the car from the road.

The North East Ambulance Service said they were called just after 5pm and an ambulance crew arrived at the crash shortly afterwards.

A spokesperson said: "Both drivers were out of their vehicles and they had no injuries."

Traffic was building up in both directions on the A1069 South Road as emergency services worked at the scene.
