Driver had consumed '2 double Gins' when he was stopped by police

A drink driver swerved close to the near side kerb and appeared to be breaking unnecessarily when he was stopped by a police officer on patrol.

Self-employed plumber Cameron Barke, 21, of Raleigh Road, Mansfield, stopped in Clipstone Road East, Forest Town, on July 25.

He admitted to the police officer he had drunk two double gins, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.

A breath test showed Barke had 92 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the limit of 35.

Barke pleaded guilty at court on Thursday, Octber 15. He received a 12-month community order, 100 hours of unpaid work, a 23-month driving disqualification and a requirement to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.

Barke, who had no previous convictions, was described by his lawyer as "very remorseful for his actions".

She said he had been out with his girlfriend and he went to bed, woke up and felt okay. He was going to go to a garage to get some medication for his partner.
