Driver from Bolton stopped by Welsh police after breaking Covid travel restrictions

A driver from Bolton was sent home by Welsh police after breaking coronavirus restrictions.

Officers from North Wales Police (NWP) are regularly patrolling the streets and stopping travellers to check that they are following the rules.

In Wales, people have been told they can only travel if it is essential, with few exceptions related to mostly health and employment issues.

Despite this, a NWP officer on Facebook warned that police had stopped multiple drivers in Snowdonia who had travelled from places including Bolton, Wrexham and the West Midlands.

They said: "Covid-19 patrols ongoing and we're working with Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri (Snowdonia's National Park Authority).

"People have been advised, sent home and reported for summons (visitors from Rhyl, Llangollen, Wrexham, Bolton and West Mids).

"The Welsh Government restrictions state exercise should start and finish from home."

Exercise is one of the few reasons people in Wales are permitted to leave their home but it must start and finish where they live.

People in Greater Manchester are expected to find out which new restrictions could affect them today, with Health Secretary Matt Hancock set to make an announcement this afternoon.
