Driver found 'wedged' on traffic island allegedly blew almost seven times legal alcohol limit

A driver has allegedly been caught almost seven times the legal blood-alcohol limit after she became stuck on a traffic island in Adelaide's north, police say.

The 53-year-old Salisbury woman has lost her licence for 12 months over the incident, which occurred on Gawler Street on Friday evening.

Police were called to the scene just after 6:30pm after the woman's car left the road and "became wedged on a traffic island".

"Police breath-tested the driver … who allegedly returned a positive result of 0.342, almost seven times the limit," police said in a statement.

The woman was reported for drink driving and lost her licence on the spot. She will face court at a later date.

Her car was towed from the scene and will be impounded for 28 days.

In a separate incident in South Australia's far north on Friday, a man was charged with traffic offences after his badly damaged Holden was allegedly caught speeding near Marla.

The 36-year-old Fregon man was allegedly detected at 143kph by a police patrol on the Stuart Highway.

The man was breath-tested and allegedly returned a positive result of 0.114.

He was charged with speeding, drink driving and driving while disqualified.
