After approaching the driver, gardaí conducted a routine drug test, finding that the person was positive for two Class A illicit substances, cocaine and methamphetamines.

The incident was posted to the An Garda Síochána Twitter page, which provides updates on regular traffic and road offences throughout the country and the relevant roads policing unit.

They said: "Gardaí from the Roscommon Roads Policing Unit found this car parked on the hard shoulder of a national road with the driver asleep in the front. The driver tested positive for cocaine and Methamphetamine and was arrested."

They also indicated that the driver will appear in court in due course in relation to the arrest.
