Driver found 29-year-old man dead in road after he 'jumped or fell' from bridge over A6 in Salford

A 29-year-old man was discovered lying on a main road with fatal injuries by a passing driver.

In the early hours of July 7, Kevin Molyneux was found with a severe head wound by a driver on the Manchester-bound carriageway of the A6, near Broughton Road roundabout, in Pendleton.

At around 1.53am, he was pronounced dead on the arrival of ambulances.

When police arrived at the incident, officers discovered items understood to belong to Mr Molyneux on a bridge above the A6 where his body was found.

The finding has led police to believe that Mr Molyneux, of Thorn Close in Salford, 'fell or jumped from the bridge'.

An inquest into his death opened at Bolton Coroners Court today (July 20).

Police coroners officer Stefan Wilson told the court: "Mr Molyneux was found on the Manchester-bound carriageway of the A6 by a passing motorist.

"He was found unconscious with a significant head wound. He was pronounced dead on ambulances' arrival.

"Police attended and found property on the bridge above the carriageway leading them to believe he has either fallen or jumped."

A post mortem in the days following the incident revealed Mr Molyneux's cause of death was head and abdominal injuries caused by a fall from a height.

Mr Wilson added: "Police enquiries show no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement."

The case is due to be reviewed on July 31 when a date for a full inquest will likely be set.
