Driver flips VW Golf and fails breath test

A driver escaped with minor injuries when the car they were in flipped and landed on its side.

Police say they were called to Buckley Lane in Farnworth, in Bolton, late Thursday night to find the black VW balanced on its side in the middle of the road.

The car was badly damaged, with huge dents in much of the roof and bonnet, while the front windscreen was smashed.

But the driver left the vehicle with only minor injuries.

However, they were later arrested after registering a roadside breath test above the legal drink-drive limit, an officer from GMP's Traffic Unit said.

In a tweet, a spokesman for the force said: "One from last night. XT58 arrested the driver after responding to a RTC [road traffic collision] on Buckley Lane, Farnworth.

"Minor Injury to the driver only.

"Provided lowest breath sample of 75 in custody."
