Police arrest man over car with false plates that crashed into Gold Coast house

A teenage girl has been rescued after becoming trapped inside a house when a car crashed through the front wall on the Gold Coast early on Sunday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Kallaroo Crescent at Ashmore just before 4:00am to find a car had crashed through the front of the brick house.

Police said the driver fled the scene and that the car, a white Nissan Qashqai, had false plates.

Just before midday, police arrested a man in his late 20s, whom they suspected of being involved in the incident.

An ambulance spokeswoman said a woman in her 50s and a 15-year-old girl were asleep inside the house at the time.

Police called the accident a hit and run, saying it was fortunate that neither of the two people in the house was injured.

The damage to the house did leave the teenage girl trapped inside a room, and fire crews had to stabilise the building before they were able to safely get her out.

Police want to hear from anyone with dashcam vision or CCTV of the car before the crash.
