Driver flees after crashing car into a skip in Bolton

A major road in Bolton was closed for several hours after a car smashed into a skip.

It happened on Chorley Old Road on Saturday evening.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were alerted to a collision between a car and a skip the road shortly before 6pm.

"There are no reported injuries and the driver fled the scene prior to police arrival," the force said in a statement.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

In an earlier statement, GMP said they had been called "to a report of a disturbance on Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

"Officers attended and established that there had been a road traffic collision" they said.

The road remained closed between the junctions with Mortfield Lane and Park Street for several hours on Saturday night with local transport chiefs urging people to find alternative routes.
