Driver flees after car smashes into lamppost and flips in early hours

A car flipped on its roof in Bolton last night after reportedly smashing into a lamppost.

Photos from the scene show the Peugeot overturned on Halliwell Road. Eyewitnesses say the car crashed at 2:20am in the early hours of Saturday (June 11), after allegedly crashing into a lamppost.

Reports from the scene also suggest that the driver and occupants fled on foot. Now, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that those reports are ‘accurate’.

A spokesperson for the force added: “[It] looks like the vehicle was recovered and enquiries are on-going’. Curtis Mullett, who arrived at the scene around 20 minutes after the crash, said the incident left ‘lots of shocked residents’.

Photos from the scene show debris over the road, which was open as of Saturday afternoon.
