Driver fined for making common motorway mistake

A driver received a traffic offence report for making a common mistake on the motorway.

North West Motorway Police took to Twitter and revealed a driver on the M62 had sat in the middle lane for around 6km, even when encouraged to move across by Cheshire Police Roads and Crime Unit.

Motorway Police have said drivers should always stick to the left unless they are overtaking.

In a thread shared on the social media platform, the forces said: "This Driver sat in the middle lane (and a brief moment in lane 3) for nearly 6km (measured by marker posts) despite encouragement by #MS24 @CheshireRCU to move across, causing traffic to have to go around to get by.

"The reason he moved into lane he said was because the car behind was intimidating him.

"He had no answer when asked why he didn't then move to lane one which was free throughout observing him and where he should be.

"Drivers should stick to the left at all times unless overtaking."

A final tweet confirmed the driver had been slapped with a TOR (Traffic Offence Report) for inconsiderate driving.

A Fixed Penalty Notice or Traffic Offence Report can be issued for a wide range of traffic offences.

This can include driving without due care and attention, using a mobile phone while driving, obstruction, vehicle defects and driving without insurance.

The amount of the fine for a FPN can vary.
