Driver fighting for life in critical condition after 'serious' crash

A driver is fighting for their life in hospital following a 'serious' crash.

Emergency services were called to Main Street in Billinge, near Wigan, at about 10.30pm on Tuesday (August 17).

Police say they received reports of a collision between a Toyota Yaris and a Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris was taken to hospital and his condition is described as critical.

A passenger was also taken to hospital to be assessed for what police say were minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was not injured, say officers.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance confirmed they had taken a man in his 70s to hospital.

The road was shut for several hours, but reopened at 6.30am today (Wednesday, August 18).
