A driver clocked at double the speed limit has been charged with damaging a police vehicle after failing to secure his own when attempting to flee.
The 37-year-old man was arrested after police detected him driving at more than 120 kilometres per hour in a 60km zone in Ellenborough Street, Kaleen on Friday night.
The driver stopped the silver Holden Commodore in Cossington Street, Lyneham and abandoned the vehicle, leaving on foot.
His failure to secure the unregistered and uninsured car caused it to roll backwards and damage the police car.
The Kambah man was apprehended nearby a short time later and was found to be unlicensed and with drugs in his system.
The Commodore was fitted with number plates reported stolen from another vehicle.
The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.
A 34-year-old woman will also appear in court, charged following a separate incident on Friday night.
Police were conducting checks on the Florey woman's identity during a road-side stop.
The woman drove away but was located in the driveway of a Rivett house a short time later.
She was found to be driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
