Driver fails breath test after being stopped by gardai for speeding at 149km/h

A driver stopped by gardai for speeding at 149km/h was found to be several times above the drink driving limit after failing a roadside breath test.

The motorist was arrested after the incident which happened before 11am this morning.

A member of the Naas Roads Policing Unit stopped the driver after they smashed the speed limit on the M7.

The results showed that a breath sample taken at 10.53am contained 98 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres - more than four times the legal limit.

Another specimen tested three minutes later had 94 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres.

A garda tweet said: "Naas Roads Policing Unit detected a driver travelling at 149 Kmph. The driver failed roadside breath test.

"Arrested and found to be a number of times over the Legal Limit. Charged to court."

The legal limit of microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath for an experienced driver is 22, compared to 9 for other drivers.
