Driver failed to provide breath test after crash on zebra crossing

A driver was banned from the roads after crashing on a zebra crossing on Mill Street in the city.

Winnie Wilson, 47, faced Nottingham magistrates where she admitted driving a Mitsubishi Outlander without insurance and failing to provide a breath sample on January 18.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, showed a picture of the crash scene and told the three JPs: "Sometimes a photograph says it all.

"People at the scene said, in their own words, she was 'battered.' She was taken to the police station and refused to provide a sample."

Mr Jerath said Wilson had committed a similar previous offence. He applied for an immediate disqualification to be imposed. This was granted.

The case was adjourned until March 17 to await a probation report on Wilson, of Park Lane, Nottingham. The length of the driving ban will then be decided.

Presiding magistrate Laura Woodings told her: "It is a serious situation. We will ask the probation service to provide us a full report.

"This was an extremely dangerous situation both for yourself and possibly passers-by.

"We need a full report, taking in all sentencing options up to and including custody."

Amreek Jandoo, mitigating, said a report would be helpful because of "the previous conviction and the circumstances of the offences."
