Driver drops off M4 down 30ft embankment after crash

A driver came off the M4 before dropping down a 30ft embankment.

The single vehicle crash happened on Monday morning near junction 38 at Margam .

The male driver of the car suffered minor injuries despite the car dropping 30ft and landing on its side between trees and bushes.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.30am on Monday morning (South Wales Police Roads)

A tweet from the South Wales Police roads policing unit read: "Single vehicle RTC, amazingly driver suffering minor injuries only after dropping off the motorway and down a 30ft embankment."

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 5.32am to an incident with one vehicle involved.

"One male driver was rescued and the fire crews assisted in making the vehicle safe.

"Two water ladders were used and a rescue tender before they left the scene at 6.10am."

The Welsh Ambulance Service sent two crews to the scene on Monday morning.

A spokesman said: "We were called on Monday, June 24 at approximately 05:35 to reports of a road traffic accident on the M4 westbound.

"We responded with two crews from the Welsh Ambulance Hazardous Area Response Team and the patient refused treatment at the scene."
