Driver dramatically rescued from overturned car in Co Cork

A driver was dramatically rescued from an overturned car in Co Cork this morning.

The incident happened on the Bandon Road roundabout on the N40 shortly after 7am on Thursday.

The fire-men used hydraulic equipment to safely free the driver of the car as traffic was diverted on the busy south ring road, Cork Beo reports.

The occupant of the car is believed to have not sustained serious injuries.

On the other side of the city, there was a serious traffic accident in Knocknaheeny last night which is now being investigated by Gardai.

A Garda spokesperson said; "Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving two cars that occurred at approximately 12am on Thursday 28th May at Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeney, Cork.

"The sole occupant of one of the cars, a man in his 30s, was taken to Mercy University Hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

"The occupants of the other car failed to remain at the scene. Investigations are ongoing."

Harbour View Road was the scene of the horror crash earlier this year which claimed the life of teen Kimberly O'Connor.
