Driver dies after horror crash between three lorries on M6

A driver has died after a serious crash involving three HGVs on the M6.

The motorway was closed in both directions by police after the collision, between Junction 19 and Junction 20, near Lymm, just after 1pm on Thursday (8 July).

Three other people sustained injuries which are not believed to be serious.

A driver involved in the collision has sadly died, the ECHO reports.

Travel monitors said one of the lorries involved had overturned.

The northbound side of the motorway reopened at about 3.30pm on Thursday, but the southbound side remained closed until Friday morning.

Police said the carriageway was likely to be closed for 'some time' as investigation work was carried out.

It has been reported that a wine and oil spillage occurred at the scene of the crash.

North West Motorway Police said on Friday morning: "The M6 Southbound between J20 and J19 remains closed.

"Experts are assessing the damage to the carriageway.

"We will re open as soon as it is safe to do so."

The motorway reopened at around 6.30am on Friday morning.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after the horror crash.
